Lean Six Sigma Consulting and Training for NSA

When the National Security Agency (NSA) decided to look at its internal processes in October of 2005, a pilot program was developed to implement process improvement throughout the NSA Enterprise. While Six Sigma practices are commonly used throughout the public sector, providing the NSA with best practice examples helps identify common problems found on government programs. Utilizing the tools, methodologies, concepts, and best practices within Lean Six Sigma, the NSA determined that the Six Sigma protocols can be effectively utilized to provide improvements throughout the Agency. The pilot program covers six projects throughout each contract year. 

 

 

Consulting Support

Compumatics Group’s Six Sigma Blackbelt developed a strategy to assist the NSA with implementing past experience with their current needs. He assists in areas of consulting, reinforcing, and applying the Lean Six Sigma tools and methods that are needed to accomplish the project team’s goals. He ensures that the teams path to completion is clearly defined, provides guidance when Government and Project Champion encounter setbacks, assists in coaching teams on development, supports the team in project status reports, aides in developing quantitative metrics, and ensures that the project case book and results are presented accurately. In addition, our Blackbelt assists the Blackbelt Program Manager (BBPM) regarding all technical and management matters. Being the key interface between the project team and the government contracting representative, our Blackbelt specialist assists in quantifying return on investment (ROI) for all project teams. Beginning at initiation, our Six Sigma consultant works with the Program Management Office to identify and remove any possible obstacles from hindering the team for project completion. 

 

 

Training

To utilize the Six Sigma process effectively, the Blackbelts on this program developed a collaborative training plan. Combining standard commercial Lean Six Sigma training materials with comprehensive knowledge of NSA processes and cultures, a collaborative on-line training program was established on the NSA Net. This on-line environment provides awareness to Project Champion, Greenbelt, and Blackbelt practices and overall Six Sigma methodologies and their comparison to NSA practices.
